Frequently Asked Questions

You probably have a lot of questions about your hernia and having it repaired, so we have given you answers to some common questions when you come for your first appointment for hernia surgery.

Do I need a Referral?

Yes you will need to see your GP and obtain a referral outlining the details of your medical condition and an overview of your health including current medications, allergies and possible complications that could arise during or after surgery.

How soon can I get an appointment?

We can usually schedule your first appointment within the first week after your enquiry. If all goes well, your surgery can be scheduled for the next week, unless the surgery is urgent in which case you will be seen on the same day for potential immediate surgery.

What will it cost?

Your initial consultation will be partially covered by Medicare and the surgical costs will vary depending on whether you have private health cover and your level of cover.
